Cut on gum

Hello. The other day underneath my tongue  on the bottom of my left gum line I felt pain when I pressed on this area with my tongue. A few days later, it is still painful but now a couple of white spots have developed. When I rub my tongue over the sores it almost tastes salty and as if my gum is punctured. What could this be? Am I in need of medical care?
Thank you

When was your last dental checkup?  It may possibly be an abscess with pus draining out, resulting in a salty taste.

Well, if its an abscess, its just draining from the infection.  If you saw your dentist a few days ago, maybe its nothing too serious.  A cold or canker sore perhaps?

Ironically, I went to the dentist on Monday but I felt the sore come on before then as I felt pressure against the sore spot before it happened. What would cause pus to drain out?

Thank you for your time.
