Divot in front tooth

I have what looks like a small chip in the enamel of both of my front teeth. Im not sure what caused them although i believe that it may have something to do with visiting a hygenist that didnt know what she was doing. She said that the dentist said i had gingivitis and did a very hard scale and polish. however i have never had gingivitis, my dentist has never mentioned it (something that i believe he would have brought to my attention and urged me to treat) and on a routine check only 3 months prior had stated that my gums were in good condition. My teeth have thin enamel (told it was hereditary?) and i am very worried they will turn into cavities. was this down to the hygenist and if not what could of caused it?

This discussion is related to Divot in front tooth enamel--chip or cavity or does it matter?.

theyre not in a position where other teeth come into contact. theyre at the top part of the front of the teeth. one is like a groove across the tooth and the other is almost like a carved hole.

Routine dental cleaning is unlikely to chip enamel away. enamel chipping is generally caused by biting.
