Dry Socket AGAIN!

I have posted before last year about two dry sockets I suffered.... well I am now going through it again!! I have had yet another failed root canal treated upper molar extracted and it is a dry socket again. Can you tell me what causes this condition?? I am having it dressed with that very smelly gel dressing stuff (sorry I cannot remember the name!) but now it is starting to close a little the gel is being pushed out which is quite annoying as it really hurts without a dressing in it as the bone is very visable. It will be three weeks tomorrow since I had it extracted and the others took at least 4 weeks to heal! Why is this happening again to me? Is it to do with an infection being present in the socket upon extraction? Thanks very much for reading my post and I think your forum is great. With best wishes, Joanne.

Joanne I wish I could tell you what causes it but we do not know--there are theories but we have no clear cut answer--they are more common on the lower but that doesn't help your discomfort.

No, I do not smoke, drink or eat any sweets - yes I am quite boring really!! The one root socket (if you know what I mean!)did not bleed in the first place. There were three roots on this molar, two were fine and the root along side the root of my mouth did not.

Are you smoking, drinking through a straw ,or sucking on hard handy?  This can attribute to dry sockets.   Something is moving the blood clot out of place.
