Dry socket

Hi.  I had a lower wisdom tooth removed on the 1st of April.  It was fairly complicated lying on it's side, gum had to be cut and bone chiseled away to access the tooth which was then cut in to 4 pieces and removed then stitched up.  On the 2nd day after the procedure I got dry socket.  The most immense pain I've ever felt throbbing down my jaw line from my ear.  Pain killers didn't even touch it.  I've since had it packed 4 times and the stiches removed.  And on second round of antibiotics. Can anyone tell me their own experience of dry socket? How Long did it take to clear up? Did you do anything to treat it yourself? Please someone help! I feel desperate and just want this ordeal over.  I'm a non smoker and using corsodol regularly.  Thanks in advance!

Had it packed again last night.  Today is day 13 since the op and finally no pain! No pain killers last night or two morning.  Feeling very cautious though. So if like me you are scouring the Internet because you have horrendous dry socket and are looking for reassurance that it will not last forever! I hope you take this post as a comfort that it will get better  just keep seeing your dentist and look after it.

Systemic administration of clindamycin+metronidazole can help clear up infection effectively. Acetaminophen(Tylenol)+ibuprofen(Advil)can ease post op pain effectively.

Also my last packing dislodged itself leaving me in loads of pain so I had it repacked this morning and already I feel as though it's coming loose.  Does that meant the hole is getting too small and perhaps healing?
