Electric toothbrush

Does an electric toothbrush clean plaque better than regular brush? Also are some electric toothbrushes better?

throw the electric toothbrush away! it's action is like a mini disc sander or angle grinder - i.e. 1500r.p.m, it boasts.

great for tooth surface, BAD FOR GUMS. in a year or so they'll be pulling them off the shelves for being the mass cause of RECEDING GUMS. they're alright for brushing the tops of teeth - but near the gumline, it brushes it away at 1500rpm.

stick with manual toothbrush, and floss, and a decent toothpaste; your teeth will love you back!

I always recommend an ultrasonic toothbrush to my patients.  The 2 best and easy to find brushes are Oral-B and Sonicare.  The main problems with manual toothbrushes and your basic battery operated brush, is the technique and length of time in which people brush (including how hard).  The ultrasonic toothbrush eliminates this problem.

I generally see a reduction in plaque and tarter buildup and a significant improvement in the health of the gum tissue.  Its a really great brush for kids with braces.

I use a "battery operated" toothbrush which may or may not be the same as an electric one.  I like it because I can walk around the house with it.  It also cleans my teeth so well! They are whiter than ever.  Also, people go to the dentist more often or less often depending on several factors, not all of which have anything to do with which toothbrush you use =)  For example, some people naturally accumulate more plaque and it wouldn't matter if you brushed 5 times a day, you would still be going to the dentist more often =D

Mellowscout...an apple a day, yadda yadda yadda =)

unless you have a specific dental condition 2 cleanings a year are normal. a manual brush works very well if used correctly. the biggest problem people have with manual brushing is not bushing the recommended 2 minutes twice a day. use a soft brush and do not use too much pressure. flossing is also very important whichever brush you choose.

Does it take awhile to  get used to using the elec. toothbrush? I have three cleanings a year ,and it would be great if I could get it down to 2 with the elec. toothbrush. Thanks!
