Foul odor at gumline of existing crown & bad breath

Hello,  I went to my Dentist last week due to extreme foul odor coming from right upper crown (which is approx. 7 years old).   He removed it (the odor was horrific).   He cleaned the crown & area and cemented it back on.  He did state the tooth stump appeared slightly loose.  I can taste & smell the poo-like odor constantl,  I am beside my self about this.   Now,  a week later I am experiencing pain under that crown.   Could it be that the stump of the existing tooth has gone bad ?  It is a root canal tooth as well.   I will do what ever it takes to have nice breath & be pain free.  Thanks

I just had a crown replaced. My dentist said it showed signs of leaking after several years.  I had the same experience--only it didn't go away--as the dentist was preparing my temporary crown. They explained that the glue they used to cement the replacement also has a foul odor. So there's no escaping these terrible smells.

  Are you able to give any advice or an update on how things are going now?  I have the exact same problem & its horrifying to live like this.  I hope things are going well for you now.

Thanks for your feedback.    I went back to my Dentist today due to severe pain & a swollen face.  The xray revealed the tooth is abscessed.  I am now on antibiotics & pain meds.  I'm having the tooth extracted next week and an implant put in, this is a nightmare.   Lesson be learned,  if their is a a gross poo-like odor coming from between your teeth/crowns when flossing,  do not let it go,  something is brewing underneath.   I would not wish this on my worst enemy : (

What happens if you can't taste and let it go?  I have that problem but I am petrified of the dentist

I was having the same odor problem under a crown and it was decay and I had to have the tooth removed.  Bacteria can find it's way under the crown and cause decay...call your dentist about the odor and pain.

Hi and welcome. you really need to have an xray of the  area. When you have a crown  they grind down the tooth, drill a whole and put in a post, so the question is the post loose or is the ground down tooth under the gum line. Obviously food was getting under the original crown and thats were the bacteria order was from. You might now consider an implant.
