Prolonged jaw pain after wisdom tooth extraction

I am a 54 year old male.  I had my 3 remaining wisdom teeth surgically removed 5 weeks ago.  1 week out of surgery, I went back to the surgeons office because of what I thought was an abnormal amount of pain.  I was diagnosed with dry socket.  Today, 4 weeks after that, I am still experiencing jaw pain that won't allow me to sleep.  The pain radiates up my jaw to my ear.  Initially it was the lower jaw that was bothering me but now it is both lower and upper.  I have been taking up to 10 Tylenol a day and using some Ora-gel in order to get some relief.  Is this normal?  (I have a pretty high threshold for pain.  I was a bouncer in a night club for 20 years.  I have experienced many broken bones, concussions and contusions and NONE of them have bothered me this long.  What gives?
