Hyperacusis and dental care

Just a curiosity question...  I suffer from bone conducted sound, via a hole in the skull in the inner ear above the superior semicircular canal.  In essence this is hyperacusis where sounds are amplified in one ear.  While simply grinding my teeth, chewing crunchy things, even brushing, is extremely loud in one ear.

It's extremely unlikely that there is anyone else here with a similar situation but I figured I'd ask anyhow... Is there anyone here with a similar condition? and if so, what did you/they do for dental care?

I have hyperacusis - was diagnosed in 2003, I can't be tested for loud sounds on a regular audiology test so.. over 29 dB, things are too loud.  In terms of dental work, I have to be sedated or I can't have it done.  Dentists won't do it because of my startle response to the sound of the drill/bone conduction.  Don't let anyone tell you to "just wear earplugs" because, first of all it's contraindicated to wear them as a rule in that it only exacerbates it by reducing your existing sound tolerance, and secondly, wearing earplugs for a dental procedure would only make things louder/more in your head.

Tempero-Mandibular Joint,  Just did a search on Hyperacusis+TMJ and found a few links, I'll look through them.  I know I don't have this particular disorder,  I have "Superior Semicircular Canal Dehiscence" which gives me the hyperacusis, but I'll continue to read the links to see what I can gleam from it in relation to dental care and hyperacusis.

Hyperacusis may be associated with tmj issue. Seeing a tmj specialist is advised.
