Infection in a tooth do not know what to do

I had an abcess in a tooth and my dentist recommended a root canal.  I had to take antibiotics for a week. I went to the endodonist and she proceded with doing the root canal.  She then told me she would have to leave it open for a week before closing it because of the amount of infection.  So she did.  It also seemed to me that she had opened it too much and drilled to far in.  After a few days I started having tremendous headaches.  She immediately prescribed me more antibiotics that where alot stronger and also something else that said on it that it would not be good for taking if you had an infection.  I told her I did not want to take both of them but she said I should.  The pain in my head went away but I felt she had drilled too far with the tooth for me to be having infection in my head.  Well the root canal was in October and  several weeks ago my head and face started swelling.  I was scared so my dentist told me to go to the or where they prescribed augmentin.  I have been on that for 7 days and the swelling went down.  Last night I missed taking one and today I had terrible headaches again.  I only have a couple more days of the anibiotic and I am afraid because each time they seem to use a stronger one.  I am now going to see a oral surgeon Friday to see about extraction.  Why am I still having pain in my head?  I have already been thru panic mode once and I am still scared because of all the antibiotics I have been given and I still feel like I have an infection and do not want to take more antibiotics and I am scared I am already resistant.  Please advise....Terri

The head pains may be from blocked up sinuses.

To help unblock the sinuses, do steam inhalations.  To do a steam inhalation, boil up a kettleful of water and pour this into a bowl taking care not to get scalded.  Add some Vick, Olbas oil or some menthop drops into the water.  Bend your head over the bowl and cover your head and the bowl with a large towel and breathe through your nose and out through your mouth.  Do this for a duration of 10 minutes or so for 4 times a day if you can.

It is surprising how blocked up sinuses can cause pain in the teeth, head, brow and cheek bones.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
