Lump on gums

Hi,

I have had a hard lump for a month now on my lower gums, behind the left bicuspid tooth. When I pressed it about 48 hours after it first formed, it drained pus which I could see. It also tasted salty and pus-like for 12 hours, and then it stopped tasting salty as it stopped releasing pus.

It also appears to change size slightly, decreasing in size and then increasing again.

It is very hard, but slightly movable. It does not move sideways, but can be depressed within the gum ever so slightly.

My question is, could it be a salivary gland problem (are there salivary glands on the gums?)

Could it be an abscess? (I have a serious cavity on the 2nd bicuspid tooth immediately beside the lump, but not on the exact tooth beneath which the lump is present)

What else could it be?

There is no salivary gland on gum. Seeing a dentist is advised.
