Mouth Sores

I need help figuring out what could be wrong with my mouth and throat (and body in general)... My periodontist and general doctor are unsure what is wrong with me and their treatments thus far have been no help (including, in chronological order of when given since mid-November 2008: 2 different anti-biotics, an anti-virals, dose pack and an anti-fungal suspension. I have a horrible sore throat; it is very red and visible sores are present to the side of my uvula. Previous to the sore throat, I had been experiencing gums that were red and swollen, and the skin on my gums peels off. Also the area below my gums, the crevice between the gum and cheek, in the 4 areas below my molars the skin is very irritated with sores and the skin over top of the sores is white and peels away. I also have sores on the side of my tongue, where it attaches to the back of my throat is red, irritated and white skin forms over it, but it peels away easily (like the crevices). It has become impossible to eat anything besides oatmeal without experiencing excruciating pain, from swallowing and my gums. Food gets stuck easily between my teeth and it seems as though my gums are receding. My periodontist told me this was the worse case he had ever seen in 25 years in someone my age; I am 21. I first noticed my gums peeling away in April-May 2008. In the past 4 weeks it has become 10 times worse. For the past 4 weeks i have been using biotene toothpaste and mouthwash only, when I use the mouthwash it soothes it and makes it feel better. My whole moth hurts and is swollen and sore... Along with these oral complications I have experienced the following, in the past 4 weeks:

I also have a scab on my back that has increased in size. It has been present for at least a couple months, small and easily forgotten, and in the past 3 weeks I have 2 more on my back, and their sizes have increased.

I had a UTI a month ago, got it treated and 2 weeks later was experiencing the symptoms again and was positive for a UTI.

Blood was taken and all came back normal... vitamin levels, gluclose, white blood cell count....

Someone please help me!!!!!!!

It appears that you have diffuse oral soft tissue lesions, which were not responsive to antimicrobial agents. if the lesion is caused by whether bacterial, viral, or fungal, the administered microbial agents are generally effective. Therefore, the lesion may be metabolic or imfammatory origin. In would tend to rule out food intolerence or allergy at present time. The common cullprits of food intolerence are dairy product, egg white, cirus fruit. Please review the textbook titled " food allergy and intolerence ", which is available in the market. If the mouthwash does relieve your symptoms, please identify which component of mouthwash is resposible for the therapeutic effect. Your descriptions are insufficient to establish a meaningful differential diagnosis. I can only best guess based on available information. since you have a skin lesion also, seeing a dermatologist is advised. Oral lesion may be oral manefestion of skin lesion. If dermatologist can not diagnose your oral lesions, seeing an oral medicine specialist is advised.

The meds I am on are... zoloft, alegra, ortho tricyclin lo and I take 3 vitamins, a women's one a day, a vitamin C and vitamin A.

I really cant eat anything that is too acidic or it burns my mouth. I have been trying to eat a lot of bread, not so much yogurt, but I will start. I eat a lot of oatmeal, and mashed potatoes. I will start adding more veggies and fruits (ones that wont burn).

I have swished with salt water a few times... I will start doing that more frequently.

I am starting with switching toothpaste and mouth wash to something other than Biotene - I am starting to think that is what has been making everything worse.

Thanks for your help... if you have any other suggestions I would really appreciate it... I am in constant pain...

I see scottma has not answered yet, but......Lord, that is horrible.   Are you on some type of medication that could be doing this?

I wonder if you are using anything that could have been made with a toxic chemical in your mouth?   Could the tooth paste you are using may have some chemical in it possibly causing this?   Are you eating alot of salt on things maybe?  I know salt makes my lips dry and crack, even though they say when salt mixed with water soothes your mouth. Have you tried rinsing with salt water?  Are you eating alot of that micro wave pop corn?   I had my mouth feel dry and irritated from eating microwavable pop corn and the skin my lips started peeling. No more micro wavable popcorn for me.

If I were you, I would get some fresh vegetables and cut them up small and start eating them somehow, along with some fruit, fresh, not canned.  sounds like you have a vitamin deficiency or some kind of infection.  Could it be from the anti biotics ?      Carrots, celery, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumber, --- get some fruit also, cantelope, honey dew, peeled oranges these all are nutritous for the body when you have a vitamin deficiency.  It sounds like something is trying to take over your cells that fight off infections.

Have you eaten yogurt lately or some bread.  There are good bacteria in these foods that help fight infection also.   Some cheese might be good also.

Put some velveeta cheese over the broccoli if you do not like broccoli.  Vegetables and fruits can do good things for the body if you haven't eaten them in awhile.

I hope you don't smoke. The chemicals in cigarettes today are awful.
