Inflamation or infection after Novacaine injection?

I went to the dentist to get a very minor filling on Friday afternoon. Sunday, I noticed my mouth, throat, and lymph nodes on that side of my neck, and the left side of my jaw were swollen and crazy sore. I went back to the dentist yesterday, the first appointment that I could get, and he told me that I had inflammation from the Novocaine injection and told me to take motrin. I think I need antibiotics. I feel terrible, like I have the flu. My face hurts. The tooth with the filling feels fine though. How can I get this to get better? SOON.

You may want to go to your primary care physician to get it checked out.  The timing is a little off if its inflammation.  Inflammation would have started sooner and an infection would tend to start later.

You may have an infection from the needle injection although that's really rare.  It may be coincidental that its occurring around the same time.

Thank you for your answer. I really do think I have an infection from the injection(s). I know it seems unlikely and trying to explain it to my dentist and getting dismissed was frustrating. I'm going to my pcp tomorrow. Thanks again.
