Pain after small filling

My 13-1/2 year old daughter received her first filling in mid-July.  It was just a small cavity between two upper teeth.  She went in for one adjustment and still has intermittant pain when biting down on something hard, such as a chip.  The dentist said it could take a month for the pain to subside and should gradually improve, and that he looked at the filling and said it was done correctly.  In his office, dental technicians (who I was told had additional training and certification to do this) actually put in the filling matter after the dentist drilled.

Does this seem normal to you?  I have had many fillings over the year and never had to go back to get them readjusted nor still have pain at times 1-1/2 months later.  The next step, he said, if it isn't gradually getting better is to take it out and start over again.  Anyone think what may be causing this?  It was just a small cavity.

sounds like a heavy handed dentist or a dull drill bit or both....even with local anesthesia, a dull drill bit and/or a heavy hand (aggressively attacking the tooth with the drill) can cause trauma to the nerve.....any time I have work done that involves "drilling", I ask that new bits be used....I even offer to pay a "new bit surcharge"...most dentists sterilize and reuse bits until they hardly cut....these are the culprits that cause excessive heating that can destroy a tooth and cause pain....another suggestion if I may...try some BACH RESCUE REMEDY...on the tooth....it helps with trauma....I use several applications on the tooth to be worked on just prior to the dentist visit.....have you used this dentist before?.....I would be inclined to get another opinion before subjecting your daughter to another round with this dentist.....
