Pain before and after root canal...

I was having severe tooth pain in a tooth I had a filling in 6 years ago so I went and had an x-ray 3 days ago.  They decided I needed a root canal so they started me on antibiotics that next day.  I went in today and they said I had a filling that had decay underneath it and the two teeth on either side of that one had a cavity from the infection of that tooth.  They did the root canal today but it took longer than expected so they put some other top filler on it instead of a temporary crown and they didn't do the fillings.  I am still having unbearable tooth pain exactly like before the root canal.  Will this pain go away or will it be there until the crown is on there and the other 2 are filled?  When will this pain go away?  I have read that if you have pain before you will have pain after but this is cripiling pain I am in...it's all the way into my jaw by my ear and down under my jaw bone by my throat.  I had the root canal to get rid of of this pain but it's exactly like it was before.  PLEASE HELP ME IT HURTS SOOOO BAD!!!!

I had a root canal done on my back bottom tooth about a month ago.  It originally hurt at the jawbone, in my ear and up my temple.  The tooth was throbbing and I couldn't bite down.  I was given antibiotics.  Then had root canal done, stopped my antibiotics for a couple days after the root canal because the pain went away.  Now I have a dull ache in my jawbone and my ear that comes and goes.  It doesn't hurt, I just feel something there. I know I don't have an infection.  Is it safe to put the crown on now?

Treat the root canal pain with ibuprofen. Most dentists recommend that you take a high dose of ibuprofen to relieve the inflammation and pain associated with the procedure. Ask for a prescription-strength pain reliever. If a dentist wants to make sure you don't suffer from root canal pain, she may give you a prescription for pain medicine.Use Orajel. Orajel is an over-the-counter gel that can temporarily numb the painful areas within your mouth. As soon as you get home, put an ice pack on the treated area. This will numb the area and reduce swelling.

I had a root canal a week ago and I have had very minor tooth throbbing this whole week until tonight...all of a sudden throbbing and aching, unbearable pain. I am 39 and have been sobbing for an hour. I don't stock any sort of medicine in my cabinet. My dentist prescribed vicodin, and an antibiotic. I took 2 vicodin within a three hour period. that did not help, therefore, took 1 antibiotic. 2 hours passed and I couldn't take it so I swabbed and swished with whisky (by the way, the taste is horribe, not recommended). 5 minutes ago, just took 1 ibuprofin. I won't take anything else. i am wondering why the pain hasn't subsided? what the heck? i have another dental appt in the morning and the dentist is doing this root canal in a 3 step process along with a crown appointment following. Please, if anyone has an answer other than me pulling a "castaway" move when tom hanks knocks his tooth out with an iceskate - let me know.

Much appreciated from Kauai.

On my root canal for a bottom molar, I had to have Percocet, 10 mg for the pain plus
I had to take 800 mg of Ibuprophen to help relieve the inflammation and swelling.

Some patient perceive enormous amount of pain during root canat treatment, some do'nt.In general, pain will wane off as time gose by.For the time being, OTC pain killer or prescribed pain killer is helpful.
