PostOp Infection

...about 3 years ago I missed a pop fly with my son & took it to the nose, this sent me to the ER . They said it was just broken blood vesles, thats all the X rays showed. There was evadently much more dammage done to my teeth that I never notticed until they started falling apart. I have had HORRID experiences with the dentist since I was very young (ortho!) The pain was so bad on Fri I went in expecting to get antibiottics & pain killers & a referral to the OS. But No he yanked them BOTH right then & there! I was in so much pain I went along with it,needless to say.....sat. came & my brain was feeling like it was exploding..they said it was a dry socket, to "rest" for the weekend & to see them on Mon. Monday came & my face looked like a Puffer fish & birthing 2 large children drug free seemed like a walk in the park! He still had no answers & kept saying to rest(this was reg Penicilin&codine). This would be great,if possible!I read a woman say it LOUD&CLEAR...I felt like I was going CRAZY! Tuesday I got my referral..over an hour drive,I was so swollen I couldnt open far enough for a straw no-less Xrays! For HER to say..I had a VERY bad infection. The relief in knowing I WAS going to survive this experience elated me & the Clinamycin&Combunox has decreased the extream swelling almost all the way(by wed. eve) & the pain is handalable, all but bending down & that hour or two b4 next med time.My question is..do you think the "Dr." should have known I had an infection? So much for being "brave"..I doubt I'll make it in 4 a cleaning now! tyvm..SC In NY

I am sorry that you had all these problems but I can't comment on  whether or not the doctor diagnosed an infection. I would assume that the reason the teeth were extracted was because they were unrestorable or you could not afford the treatment that was necessary to save them. I do hope that you were given the option of extracting them or possibly restoring them.

OK...let me rephrase my question as to not sound like Im "after" someone(witch I am not). Money was never an issue, my insurance covered anything in that relm. I was & still am just very scared of anything to do with a stranger hanging out of my mouth with tools of inpailment! lol I LOVE this dentist & will go back to him for the rest of my work...ONCE IM 100% The teeth were beyond repair due to my lack of courrage & negligence, this I know.)....As a Dr...would YOU have pulled the tooth, NOT knowing if there was an infection/abcess or not?
again tyvm for your time..it is greatly appreciated.
