Root canal on a central incisor

I had the first stage of a root canal performed on my top central incisor only 48 hours ago.  The nerve was already inflamed and the procedure was carried out by a very skilled endodontist.  I'm on a lot of painkillers at the moment and I accidentally knocked the tooth with a heavy glass when I was drinking water just a couple of hours ago.  The pain from the tooth when I knocked it sent me through the roof!  The endodontist said the tooth has been through a "trauma" as such and that the ligament above the tooth has sensitive nerve endings that can still be transmitting pain.  Can a dentist on here just reassure me that my tooth will feel normal again in time because at the moment with the amount of pain I'm having I feel like I'll never ever be able to have anything touch this tooth without screaming in pain again.  Also there is no occlusal adjustment necessary in case anybody raises that as an issue.  I'm scared that this pain will never end and I'll never be able to bite into anything ever again :-(   Sounds silly I know but I'm at my wit's end and it's only been 48 hours :-(

in a two stage root canal first the dead part is removed and cleaned leaving the live nerve to be removed later. this can be painful until completed. even when done in one appointment many times there is a calming down period. advil will help with pain and swelling. if you want a dentists opinion post in the ask a doctor forum instead of the community section.

Something isn't right with this, and it sounds to me like either all the nerve was not removed, or he damaged something deeper than the root.  Insist that the endodontist see you right away to evaluate your pain.
