Root canal repair to save tooth

My tooth #22 has had a root canal many years ago.  It began to irritate me .  The dentist said maybe a reaction to the metal on the crown.  We replaced the crown.  While doing this the dentist said there could be a very slight crack in the root canal.  He said we would need to watch  it and see.  The x ray also showed there might be an infection brewing...  I am having sinus drainage and ear pressure.. But no pain in tooth or around whatsover...I saw an endodontist for a 2nd opinion.  He said there is a perforation by the post. The endodontist is going to drill a hole in the crown and look at it with a special microscpoe.  He said he will tell me if there is a chance he can repair it.. If not , the tooth will need to be extracted..

Question 1: How succesful is repairing a perforated root canal?
Question 2: Can my runny nose and ear pressure be a result of this?

The answer to question  2 is no. I have seen pretty good success with the repair of perforations and i think it is worth the try because the cuspid is a very important tooth.

Thank you.  Maybe I have the tooth # wrong.  I still have my wisdom teeh and I had 4 teeth pulled before braces.  I think it is a 2nd molar.. upper jaw left side.  Does  that make a difference in your recommendation?
