A persistent salty taste in the mouth can have many possible causes, including:
Dehydration. This may be due to inadequate fluid intake or excessive fluid loss. Review your diet. Excessive intake of alcohol or caffeine can cause fluid loss, resulting in dehydration, which can make saliva saltier.
Side effect of certain medications, such as anti-thyroid medications and chemotherapy drugs.
I had oral surgery to get out an impacted tooth, the palate was wet all day, then it strated with the sour, salty taste, so I went back to the oral surgeon to find out what's causing this. He told me I might have a hole near the sinus area, so I had surgery, the Oral Surgeon he cleaned out the area affected and said he found a hole which he sealed up. I had my normal taste for a while, Then it started again with the salty and sour taste, I went back to my oral surgeon and he checked the affected area and told me he couldn't do anything for me. I was surprised, he told me to go see an ENT Doctor. I also have a stuffy and runny nose since the first oral surgery. I never had any of this conditions before the extraction.

I have been to 3 dentist who has exrayed my teeth and finds nothing wrong plus 3 ents which said they have found nothing. I have had my sinus x-rayed and i have had 4 ct sc\ans which they tell me i have lymods nodes raised on the left side. I am beside myself because i cannot find no relieve. I chew gum while i worked to keep my mouth from burning from salt..
