Scared to Make Big and Quick Decision - Please ADVISE

My tooth is growing in pain with each day. Last year I had the same pain in the same tooth. Since I was in a foreign country when the pain started I asked the dentist to first try a passive approach. He perscribed antibiotics. That same night I was in terrible pain. The next day I went to the dentist and he was delighted. There was an infection in the bone, which came to the surface. For one year the tooth was fine. Now, I feel the pain again. I went to my dentist yesterday and he told me the bone is infected and the tooth is dead and needed to come out. I would like to take antibiotics again in the hopes that it may give me a few months to weight my options while not in pain. If he takes my tooth out I will then have to get an implant, he says, which costs about $5,000. I would like to postpone this expense. Is it okay logic to ask for antibiotics instead of extraction? Will antibiotics stop the pain and perhaps the infection? Could antibiotics cure the entire problem all together? Are antibiotics a possible solution? I am scared to make a quick decision about something so serious. Please give me you advice, please.

Thanks.

The answer is no no and no. At this point you are starting to play with fire. If the infection gets out of hand you will not be a happy camper and you are doing yourself a disservice by allowing the infection to linger and get worse. Bite the bullet and get the work done. Also by allowing the infection to remain you are destroying the necessary bone needed for the implant.

I appreciate your advise. Last questions: Based on what I wrote, would you agree then to extraction, and to start the process of healing and implant surgery? Is it possible to have a temporary tooth put in immediately, or a few days after extraction? I am meeting my future mother-in-law for the first time and I do not want to be toothless, that is why I wanted to take antibiotics and wait a few weeks. What do you think. I appreciate your advise very much.
