Spot on gums?

Yesterday I noticed a redish purple spot on my upper gums.  It is not painful, just kind of ugly.

I don't remember hurting it in any way.  I brush and floss regualrly, and have also been to the dentist in the past few months.

Is this something to be worried about?  Or just wait for it to go away?  I'm away at school, so my dentist is about an hour and a half away.

The lesion appeared on the picture is different from your descriptions. The lesions appear to be erythematous, flat , ulcerated, well demarcated . Clinical differential diagnoses include , but not limited to,traumatic ulcer, vesiculobulous lesion, hypersensitivy. If the lesion does'nt resolve within 2 weeks, seeing an oral pathologist is advised.
