Swelling over abcessed tooth

I noticed a small bump over my front tooth where i had a cavity filled 2 years ago. Visited the dentist, he said i require root canal treatment and prescribed me amoxicillin and ibuprofen for 1 week. 5 days have passed and the ball shaped swelling over my tooth only keeps growing. I figured there is pus trapped in the gum but it does not drain. I have a root canal appointment in 3 days. Should i notify the dentist of these changesÉ. And will he still be able to do the root canal with this big swelling. please help, And Thank You!!!
