TMJ Disorder

I was suffering from pain near TMJ joint on and off since few day I went to my dentist and he said I am suffering from TMJ disorder due to the wisdom teeth on my upper growing a little sideways and he said since in my case the pain is not too severe he would only go for the wisdom teeth removal when the pain gets too severe and when I start hearing my jaw creak or click. He has given me muscle relaxants for a week. Could someone let me know if TMJ disorder is a big problem and if I should be excessively worried about it.
Thank you.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
A detailed clinical examination is necessary for correct diagnosis and treatment. Stress, any injury to the jaw, dislocation of disc between ball and socket of the joint, grinding the teeth can all lead to Temperomandibular joint disorders. There may be pain or tenderness in the face, limitation of movement at the joint, difficulty in chewing, swelling on side of face, clicking sounds in jaw joint etc. A careful history, physical examination and X-rays will help in determining the cause. Consult a dentist. Do keep me posted.
Best luck and regards!

Actually the main problem I experienced due this were the headaches near the temple region for over a week. After taking the muscle relaxants which my dentist gave me I am feeling better with respect to both my TMJ pain and headaches. My dentist also said in my case the TMJ disorder is not too severe so he recommended me undergo the wisdom teeth removal only if the problem gets too difficult to manage. Thank you Dr.Sharma.

TMJ disorder is very common these days.  I think it is because we live such fast paced stressful lives.  Some people clinch and or grind their teeth without being aware of it.  If this is true in your case and the headaches return, a mouth guard would be a good idea.
