To Gellia Implant Abutment Exposed

Hi Gellia  I don't think that I phraised my question properly because of your answer.
    My implant was drilled into my lower jaw bone five months ago.
The implant abutment by a different Dentist was placed TWO WEEKS AGO.
THE CROWN was placed TWO DAYS AGO AND THERE IS A LARGE SPACE BETWEEN THE GUM & CROWN.
I am 66 years old and the gum could not have receded ONE MINUTE AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE CROWN.
I think that the crowns were poorly made OR THE ABUTMENTS WERE THE INCORRECT SIZE DO TO THE FACT THAT THE DENTIST HAD TO GRIND THEM B/4 TAKING THE IMPRESSION.
I think that the job should be done over. Removing the crownes, taking new impressions etc.                       THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR PROMPT ANSWER.

I think I understand.  You feel you need a "longer" crown that fits down to the gumline that will cover the implant threads.  

First, were your abutments fitted to the implants, then the impressions taken and the crowns made?  Is it possible your dentist may have felt the tooth crown would be too long and make it look "long in the tooth".  You can't shorten the length of the tooth or you run the risk of the teeth above supra erupting.  Your crown has to be the same height as your original tooth.  Would it look too long?

I too, have my implant threads exposed.  Because it doesn't show (unless I pull my upper lip up over my head!  LOL), I elected to do nothing about it.  I really think the only solution to your problem is to have your crowns remade into a longer length, with perhaps a porcelain to a chamforded edge (beveled backward)  crown, or a gum replacement procedure to bulk up the gum tissue around the tooth.
Did you have a bone graft?  Remember, gum won't grow if there isn't bone below it.

Hope this helps and please let me know how you are doing.  Your problem can be solved if you find the way it looks aesthetically unpleasing, but it may require further surgical treatment.

Hi again GELLIA,

Gellia to answer your question, the "Abutments" for teeth 28,29 & 30 were attached to the implants than a full mouth impression and an impression of just 28,29 and 30 was taken. ( the crowns are fused together for added strength)
The fact is that the bite is fine but the teeth look a little small.  
The inside of the implants fit fine right to the gumline.
However, on the outside facing my right cheek there are large gumline spaces.
The Dentist assistant made accurate impessions it's just that the lab did not make the proper teeth. They look like they have been installed for many years on the cheekside and fit perfectly on the tongue side.
   I did tell the Doc that I did not like the fit and he said that he could fill it but that it was not a good thing to do and that it's better to just live with the condition.
I THINK THAT HE JUST DOES NOT WANT TO GRIND OFF THE CROWNS AND MAKE NEW ONES.
WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THEM TO MAKE THEM OVER ???

I honestly think that your dentist should be trying harder to make you happy.  

"he said that he could fill it but that it was not a good thing to do and that it's better to just live with the condition",.....What kind of comment is that???  Ask him WHY it is not a good thing to do.  You are paying him for this service.  He should make you happy, period.

Tell him you want a very good and satisfying reason as to why he thinks it's OK when you do not.  Evaluate from there.  Are these permanently cemented already (that could actually be a problem)?  Did you have a time with them temp'd in?  If not, why not?

You should get EXACTLY what you pay for and a big part of that is being happy with your crowns.  If they made them too short, they should do them over to your satisfaction.  Remember, you are PAYING for this.

Probably quite a bit.

Please, ask him why he thinks it's OK.  If he has a reason that is satisfying to you, fine.  Then you'll know.  But, if he doesn't, then you have every right to ask for them to be done to YOUR SATISFACTION.  Dentists are very good at what they do.  Part of it is to talk YOU into what is best for THEM.  Be satisfied with his answers first, or get your new crowns.

I honestly can't think of any reason, except for the tooth looking "long" for there to be a gap like that.  My DH has 7 molar implants and his are not like that.

Good luck.  A good idea is I always wrote my questions down on a piece of paper so I couldn't get weigh laid into not getting my actual questions answered.  My dentist was really good at that.  I'd say, "Isn't that crooked?"  And, he'd go,..."Do YOU "think" it's crooked?"  Hmmmm,.....why would I ask if I didn't?  

I finally took photographs of what my crowns looked like and exactly what I wanted and gave it to him.  No problem after that.  Sometimes its a matter of "drawing pictures" to get them to understand.  The picture worth a 1000 words, so to speak.

So, ask,...and draw him pictures if you have to.  The bottom line is you should be happy with your crowns and he should have a satisfied customer.
