I had a root canal done on no. 30 a little over a year ago & at least for me, it took
about a year for the tooth (with crown) to feel 'normal'. I know everyone heals
differently, but a root canal & crown does cause a lot of trauma to a tooth & it does
take time to 'settle down'.
Good Luck.
If your symptom developes after crown delivery, it's very likely that there is occlusal interference of new crown. It's probably true that the root canal obturation is perfect.I tend to believe what my colleague says.Seeing an occlusionist or prosthodontist is advised.
Dear Dr. Scottman,
Here I am again, no change after my dentist "sawed" my tooth. My tooth feels, when I tap it, nerve pain. I need to seek out a Prosthdontist. Should I go back to the Endodontist first before the Prosthdontist to see if maybe a root was not done, even though he told me it was a "perfect root canal"? My tooth after the crown and root canal is still nerve sensitive when I tap on the tooth.
I am in total dismay, I don't know who to believe and I am lost in this, anything you can help me with would be ever so appreciated!
Thank you Dr. Scottman...
I did visit my dentist today, he took off more of my crown, hoping for the "bite" to be better. I still have the nerve pain and when he sprayed cold water on the neighboring tooth, it did give me a nerve pain. I am to go back in one week for a follow up visit. My dentist told me that the crown looked good on the x ray and that he did not feel that the crown was the problem.
Thank you for responding to my question, I do not have anyone else to communicate this issue with..Thank you so much!
Possible causes of your tooth complaints are incomplete canal debridement and obturation, occlusal interference of crown, and periodontal origin which may be associated with crack or suboptimal contour of crown.Seeing a competent and experienced dentist is advised.
