bad breath

My question is that ever since I have quit smoking and had my wisdom tooth taken out, I've noticed soreness in my upper back area, and on the lower mollars there is blackening around my crowns.  My mouth has a bad taste and odor to it as well.  I've been using an electric tooth brush, and floss alone with listerine.  Do I need to make another dentist apt.  or is there something I can do to get rid of the blackness and odor?  When I went to my dentist for my referel to the maxifacial surgery guy they didn't mention anything about an infection.  I would of hoped that they saw anything in the back area that would of been shocking to them and would try to fix or something.

I made an apt today with my dentist.  He said that he thinks that an extensive good cleaning would get ride of the pain in my gums and the bad smell.  However, it still hurts and my apt isn't for another week.  You can clearly see my tooth turning color, and the gum is swollen.  I honestly do not know how my dentist can miss that when looking in my mouth.  The x-ray showed my teeth having some sort of spurs on them and he thinks that this is what is irritating my gums.  Well those spurs didn't happen over night, and I have just started this feeling and smell over the past 4-5 days.  I know I so have an infection in my gums or tooth.  I am afraid of getting septic.  I see it all the time.

Malodored breath is generally associated with tooth decay and periodontitis. Seeing a dentist for comprehensive check-up is advised.
