Not brushing and especially flossing cause be a problem. Food that remains in the mouth, even overnight can cause mouth odors. Basically food is decomposing in your mouth.

Odors can also be from illnesses such as gastric.

You did not mention if any perio problems was discussed with you on your last dental visit. First, try FLOSSING DAILY, use a mouthwash as well. Non alcohol if you are a smoker. See if that helps.

Then consider seeing your PCP. You may have another problem medically that needs to be looked into.

Hi patriciat,
Thanks for for your reply. Not in routine but if something stuck in my tooth then I use floss or tooth pick.
I went for a checkup in september 2010.

Hi

Are you flossing daily too? This is as critical as brushing. Mouth odors can originate from various things.  How long since your last exam/cleaning? Please give more info.

Hi All,
New in this forum and don't know whether someone raise this problem or not so sorry if someone asked it before and redirect me to the solution.
I brush my teeth twice and they are shinning white. My problem is bad breath.
I have tried several mouth wash also but they didn't worked for me.
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Hi!

I have been reading your posts and see you are still having so many problems.

On your X-rays, there should have been a series of 4 bitewings taken where the third molars would have been included.  At least I always take 4 especially when I know thirds are still present. So if bitewings were taken, they should have a film with the thirds in them.....I would hope. Every office is different. Even an fmx should have a periapical of the thirds, unless a pano was taken instead.  Not sure how long it has been since you had that, but typically it is done every 3 years.

I am not a fan of the OTC whitening strips cause they have hydrogen peroxide in them. It can irritate the gingiva.  The kits sold professionally have carbamide peroxide and really work well.  We start out at a very low % formula until the patient adjusts and can tolerate it.

I have also been seeing patient sensitivity to toothpaste. Sodium Laurel Sulfate can be an issue.  I personally use organic toothpastes and mouthwashes.

Unless I have missed something with all you posting, have tried to buy a night/mouth guard OTC?  I did not see it, but thought I would mention it. They are very cheap and you have not stated trying that to see if that helps relieve some pressure from clenching or grinding? I buy my husband's at places like WalMart cause he has a bruxing problem.  The night guard worked well for him. They are with the teeth products. Easy to find.

Really sorry you are going through this. You are smart to pursue this as you have until you get resolution. I applaud you.

Pat

No, no....the peroxide won't hurt you!  It just dried the muscous membrance and can give it a white appearance but that will go away.  It is NOT thrush!!

Whitening strips are oxyperoxide.  A super oxygenated peroxide.  It can do far more damage to your gums than regular peroxide can.  You'd have to use it A LOT before it could cause any damage.  It won't cause thrush either.  Over use of antibiotics can lead to thrush, but even that is rare.

What you need to do is go back to salt water rinses.  This is almost the same as normal saline in the mouth and won't cause any damage to your teeth, gums or anything else in there.  It's actually very healing and can help with any infection in the gums that could be starting.  If you have a root abscess, nothing will help and you will know it without question.

PLEASE, be gentle with your teeth and gums now.  Your efforts to help yourself are admirable but you can actually be hurting yourself by being over zealous.  Don't even floss too hard.  It sounds as though your gums are in a friable condition and haven't had a chance to heal at all.  GENTLE is the key word.  Seriously, you can cause infections by brushing too hard, and flossing too vigorously.  Hold your toothbrush like you would a pen or pencil when you brush.  It's about all the pressure you need to get your teeth clean.
Don't do anymore than brushing twice a day and flossing once.  Rinse as many times as you want with the salt water.

I really think you'll be OK.  It just doesn't sound like a major abscess brewing to me but I can't see your teeth or any xrays so, obviously I can't be sure.  I guess I just don't WANT you to have an abscess any more than you do!!

Hang in there.  Please just do the brushing, flossing and rinses.  Be gentle with yourself.
Again, time is your friend here.

Best to you and thanks for your well wishes, too,
Gellia
