crowns

I NEED TO HAVE A CROWN REPLACED. tHE TOOTH UNDERNEATH IS A SMALL PIECE LEFT. i HAVE HAD TROUBLE IN THE PAST WITH THE CROWN FALLING OFF. nOW THE DENTIST SAYS I HAVE TO HAVE A NEW ONE. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT ON A TOOTH THAT IS BARELY THERE. wHAT DO i NEED TO EXPECT  DURING MY APPOINTMENTS? tHANKS

I should definitely hope not. Let them know in advance especially if its a front tooth.

In response to Dr. Tsang's comment,I will have a temporary correct. I do not have to leave the office with an ugly tooth?

They will most likely cut the crown in half and remove it by breaking it apart to loosen the cement underneath.  Then they'll have to repair any damage to the tooth and take an impression or mold of the tooth to send to a lab to make a crown.  Then they'll bring you back to cement it in after checking it.  If your doctor has a CEREC, they may take a picture of the tooth instead and make the crown inside the dental office and skip using a dental lab.
