dental injection making eyelid droop

Hi
I have had a dental injection for a filling, however, for the first time ever, it felt weird, it didnt feel numb much, and my eye lid drooped, and at first I couldn't open my eye, there was a very strange sensation, and I felt as though I was going to have a panic attack, which luckily I didn't, but it has really scared me, as I thought I had had a stroke.
What has happened, and do you know what caused it, and how long will it last, and could it ever happen again? I was unable to drive, and advised to rest.
Please help
Thankyou
Jimcal

Was the tooth being worked on top and towards the front of your mouth? The dentist was probably doing an ASA injection (anterior superior alveolar nerve block). Sometimes if the needle is inserted too high for this injection it can catch the infraorbital nerve as it exits the foramen there. Check out this pic to get a better idea (http://www.pitt.edu/~regional/Dental%20Blocks/image001.jpg).
Anesthesia of this nerve causing drooping of the eye so it seems likely that this is what happened. Explain to them the next time you go in that this happened and they can adjust the administration so as to avoid this again (although it really wouldn't cause any harm)!

Once your numbness wears completely off this sensation should wear off as well.  If it doesn't wear off you should contact your dentist tomorrow.
