large canker sore

Hi, I have a large 0.7cm canker sore on my cheek next to one of my molars, and it's been 7 days. The pain has gone away (thankfully encouraging), but it hasn't decreased in size yet. Is this normal? I feel like the friction with my teeth every time I open my jaw may be affecting it. thanks!

if you posted a picture of it we could tell you if it were a fistula or an ulcer.  they look different.

If the blister was from a fistula, the infection really doesn't go away.  You just don't know it's slowly dissolving bone.

The easiest and really best thing would be to go and have an xray done of that tooth.  If there is an infection near the root, by the time the infection comes to the surface again it may be too late for you to save your tooth.  That's what happened with mine.
I thought the infection was gone, too.  BIG mistake.

Please make an appt with your dentist and have it looked at properly.  You really could be saving not only that tooth but the teeth next to it.  Infection spreads along the periodontal ligament and you won't know it has affected the neighboring teeth until it's too late.  Been there, done that and believe me, you don't want to do what I did.  It was a very expensive, time consuming and painful experience.

Best to you in whatever you decide your dental health will be.

If it is a very large ulcer then it could possibly take 10 days for it to subside, however if its still very painful and you have seen no change in appearance, then I probably would see a dentist for reasons Gellia told you.  If you can stand it, one more week probably wont hurt you, but I would not go over a week before calling the dentist.  If the pain increases, you see pus, or it gets bigger, I would call immediately.

It's also possible that it is not a canker sore but a fistula from a tooth root infection.
Once the infection starts to drain, pain is greatly diminished, but it hasn't gone away.

Please go to your dentist for an xray.  I had the same thing and let it go once the pain was gone.  Fast forward a year or so and I wound up loosing FOUR teeth from bone loss due to the infection.

Please don't do what I did.  Had I gone when it first happened, it would have been ALOT less expensive and painful.

Call your dentist.
My very best to you,
Gellia
