pain after abcessed tooth pulled

I had an abcessed tooth pulled on Monday. I didnt know the tooth was abcessed and I slept with a heating pad on my face for 2 nights (or tried to sleep).  At the dentist office, yes, I got slapped on the hand for the "heating pad" thats a NO NO... to anyone that doesnt know.  He pulled the tooth with no problem, said it was the easiest extraction all day.  That night, I had throbbing pain, at my check bone.  It went away after applying an ice pack.  But now, 3 days later, my cheekbone is still very sore, with moderate pain, and I have a slushing sound in my opposite side ear.  Any ideas?  I was given no pain meds or antibotics.  I have been taking motrin, every 6 hours, and it does help with pain. Suggestions? Advice?

Goping back to your surgeon to have a follow-up exam is advised.
