partial upper denture

hi;I had a partial upper denture done last week tuesday, with 6 teeth 4 in the front and the next 2 on one side, right next to them;I am doing pretty much ok so far,I have to mentaly get used to them;eating is getting better evry day;my question is (beeing that my dentist is away till friday so,I can not talk to him):sometimes,I have this pressure sensation in my whole mouth ,all over my upper jaw, like the denture is pushing together my remaining teeth..if I take the denture out and put it back in I feel ok for awhile then the sensation comes again and is very anoying;I can not keep them out,I have 2 small children(it is unfortunate that at my age I have to wear dentures, but ..no other option for me at this time);I am very nervous,I have a hard time and do not know why I have this feelings and what to do....
please help me;is this something normal?when somebody has dentures,do we actually feel them always beeing there or it will disapear once I get used to them?

i was loosing mine in my early 20's  my mother had false teeth in her 20's

and i use to think my god im not even a drug addict and im loosing all my teeth--
its a shame this country dont help us with all this very expensive dental bills

i paid for 10 root canals at 2,500 each and that was 10 years ago i was 30

so now im 42- i have  only 6 upper teeth left and guess what i cant even afford to get them fix/replaced
pretty sad--

Hey, I think you need an adjustment and you should call the office and show the dentist your problem. Do realize that when teeth are extracted and a partial is immediately placed, that there will be issues and an adjustment is usually always needed. It's actually best to have the teeth removed and then wait for the area to heal, that will give a better fit. Don't be upset because adjustments are almost always expected. I am a hygienist and I have pt.'s that have removable appliances for years and randomly need adjustments to them. Bone changes, especially when the teeth are extracted, so simple adjustments are fine. I don't recommend you brush your partial with toothpaste. Most toothpastes have abrasive particles in them and that is a good way to scratch your partial. After each meal, take a soft toothbrush and brush it under cold water. Warm-to hot water can distort the partial if it isn't metal. Be sure to take your partial out at night! (It's like going to bed with your shoes on if you leave it in) A lot of people don't do this and they end up with mouth sores. You can soak them in an otc solution, but read the box and choose the best one. Partials can stain and if any kind of scratch on them, stain can set up and be hard to remove. You don't want pressure being applied to your natural teeth, so go in and talk to the dentist and ask for an adjustment!

Hey I am looking at getting a upper partial I only have 17 teeth left I need to have 5-7 more pulled, some of mine are front teeth and I don't want to be out in public without teeth. I was really nervous about having teeth pulled and a denture put in right then. But to read your blog it doesn't hurt. Did you have to have some teeth filled before they put the partial in? I will need some work done to the teeth I am planning to keep. Thanks for any info you have I think I will have a oral sugeon pull the teeth so I can be put to sleep, I am scared of dental work still at my age had a bad experience when I was young.

it would depend, if they are hard  acrylic you can get a denture brush and scrub them with toothpaste (that really is for taste) and then using a soaking cleaner if you feel it needs more.  however, if the dr has put a soft liner in them, you cant do that. id ask your dr seeing as i dont want to cause you any problems having it been made out of something different than what i know of.  since you had the teeth removed the same day as you had your partial delivered, (hopefully they told you all this, but we tend to forget when we have such a traumatic appt) your gums will shrink. very normal.  as they do your partial may fit looser. this is when they will have them relined.  if they use a temporary soft reline it will be done with you in the chair for about half an hour.  to have a permenant reline they take them from you in the morning, and you get them back that afternoon.  you can develope sore areas which the dr can adjust quickly in his office. one thing i have seen happen is someone take them out and not put them in the appropriate container in a safe place, and their dog come chew them up!!  dont know why dogs love things that have been in our mouths!! lol. i wish you the best and patience getting used to this appliance.

yes,I had the front 4 extracted the same day;and partial inserted right away;that was tuesday and did not take them out till friday evening at the doctor;after that,I take them out morning, night and after I eat to clean them;that is it;I am happy to have privacy to clean them,my little ones are always around me-so mammy can not be without them for a second!!!;I will try to take the pain, until friday-maybe is just normal,if not I will see my doctor;Yes,I would love implants, but I think they would be a fortune for me,I have bone loss ;my husband said there is no difference in my talk...I can feel trouble sometimes when I talk, probably he is just trying to be nice....
thanks again for all the advice;it helps a lot

do you think I should give myself a few more days to see if is just a need to get used to them?my issue is,that, after I had them done tuesday,I was pretty much comfortable with them till friday night, when my doc advised me(after I saw him for a visit and he said that everything looks great and no adjustments needed at the moment)to start taking them out JUST for the routine cleaning...I am very careful with them,I suffered soo much and was not able to smile or talk normaly,I was avoiding people, that I do want to smile,to laugh,to enjoy life-so,I really just take them out for cleaning,I don't stay without them....

did you have extractions done the same day you were given the partial? if so, then taking them out for periods of time can cause the teeth (your own teeth) to possibly shift. then the fit will be tight. if you  can take it and suffer a few more days to see, then maybe you will get used to them, but maybe not.  if you call the dr on call they can tell you, i cant say if you should or shouldnt. id probably call if it were me, i dont like pain :)  its very normal to not need adj. the first several days, but soon after, and it can take several different adj. to get them just right.  do keep them as clean as you can, they can build up a plaque build up, stain, and you dont want that.  being so young maybe you can save and eventually get implants. you would be amazed at how natural they can look, but very expensive i know.  you will eventually smile like they were what you were born with.  if they cause you to talk differently, keep them in and while at home talk out loud, to yourself, to the kids, to the dog.  it will make the lisp that some notice go away.

taking them in and out all the time will not let you get used to them. however if you feel there is a squeezing pressure on your natural teeth that can be fixed if the dr sees it needed (meaning other than just getting used to it).  there shouldnt be pain, it sounds more like you need to have an adjustment.  every dentist has a person left to be on call while they are away, and maybe they can see you.  im sure they have an answering service give them a call tomarrow morning, they can refer you to the dr on call.
