Hi,
I have had the lump feeling in my throat for now about 3 months. It is highly annoying, and sometimes painful. Its the same feeling like when your choking up/trying not to cry feeling.  I was deathly scared that it was cancer related....

I have seen a really good ENT who has done the tests, looking down my throat with a scope,  Nothing was wrong.  He told me it was Globus Hystericus.  There's nothing wrong that is doing damage to your throat  If I get stressed right out, the pain is unbearable,  The more relaxed I am, the better it feels.
He taught me breathing exercises to help...
breathe in through the nose count to four
breathe out through the mouth count of six.
it works for me.

I would still suggest that you get it checked out, you never know.  Better to know than to stress yourself out more, and cause more pain, which causes more stress, which causes more pain... Viscious circle

Another doctor I seen said it was due to my fibromyalgia, (a muscle condition).
So different doctors, different diagnoses' ...  but still the same advice....  destressyour life!!!
Hope this helps you out.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
You should definitely go to your primary care physician to get it checked out.  Its possible it may be cancer, especially if you have any high risks such as smoking, drinking alcohol, family history, etc.
