very numb teeth from a hard blow to them

Hello, i recently got hit with a piece of hardwood flooring that flew off of a table saw i was using. It hit me in the chin, from the top of my bottom lip to the very end of my chin, split wide open and went all the way through. It knocked out my top left big tooth and i have many stitches outside and inside of my mouth,it roughed up my gums under my teeth quite a bit also.My question is....my bottom row of teeth are still intact(thank god) but are very very numb. They dont hurt but are very very sensitive. It has been 4 days since the accident. The doctor told me it will take some time to determine if my nerves were damaged and if i will need further care in the future. What could have happend to them, best and worse case scenario..Thanks!!...Jay

Best case scenario........the nerves are badly bruised and need time to settle, especially seeing as there may be quite a bit of swelling due to the trauma and stitches.

Worst case scenario......nerves have been severed in the gum.   Was your inside gum split open or just your chin?

You mentioned the bottom row of teeth are totally numb and yet they're "very very sensitive".   Sensitive to what exactly?   (Obviously sensitive to hardwood flooring.....I feel for you.......that *****).   Hope you feel better soon.

If there was nerve damages, you might have to have your teeth pulled.  I think that's the worst case scenario, but I'm hopeful that won't be necessary.  Have you gone to a dentist.  They can do x-rays of the teeth and see what's happening.  I would at least have a dentist look at your mouth - preferably a periodontist.  They are experts in that area.  Good luck!
