Go back to the dentist, but be precise on where and how it hurts:
is it left, right, upper, lower, or some combination? Does it hurt in your jaw, ear, or chin? Does it ache or throb or feel sharp like cutting or some combination of these? Can you pinpoint the source, a certain tooth or teeth or space? Does the pain travel start to finish, or does it spread out from one point? Do your lips, gum, tongue hurt? Do you have a fever?
The dentist has to rely a lot on what you describe, so maybe write it down so you don't leave out any important details.
Best of luck.
