Signs and symptoms

Hi Dr,

Thank you for taking your time to read this.  Here is my question.  I've had odd syptoms for the past 4 mos now, and it includes numbness, tingling, burning sensations and muscle twitches in various parts of my body.  Sometimes the numbness goes for days on end and it will hit my forhead and entire facial area at times causing burning pain also.  I had a complete neurological workup at the Clev clinic and after he evaluated me he said MS is highly remote and he felt this was an anxiety related issue.

My question to  you is:  IS this commonly seen for you from patients with anxiety?  Does this sound like a typical anxiety feature and with what medications do you usually give to help eleviate these symptoms?  I am pretty mentally healthy with the exception of raising a very active 5yr old son and a 7mo old baby it can be tiring, but I have never had anything like this in the past except a nervous stomach, but that would subside when I got back home in a relaxing environment.  I cant quite grip the concept that I am making this all up in my head, yet I have not thrown out the possibilities. My muscles will start twitching as soon as I wake up in the morning like no sooner then I open my eyes and am not completely awake yet, they begin. I am starting to get scared now because its gone on for a few months non stop, I wonder if the symptoms are causing the anxiety or vice versa.  I read about other neurological disorders and think well maybe? and sometimes I get so scared that I might wake up worse or that this wont go away.  Im on .5 mg of Xanax which just makes me a relaxed person with numbness. Your insight would be much appreciated.  thanks once again

Dear Gina
Patients with anxiety can have tingling, numbness, burning sensations etc. as part of their symptomatology. But anxiety can be treated effectively with a combination of medications and Psychotherapy. Medications such as SSRI
