Adderall and Alcohol, What are the Effects.

Amy
Hello,
I am an 18 year old college student who was recently rushed to the hospital due to alcohol intoxication.  I have been on Adderall to treat ADD for the past year,  and this incident scared me very much.   What are the effects of adderall in combination with alcohol?  could it have had an effect on my reaction to drinking?
Thank you very much for answering my question
Amy

Dear Amy

Adderall, which contains Amphetamin is a CNS (Central Nervous System) stimulant unlike Alcohol which is a CNS suppressant. Adderall may impair the ability of a person to engage in potentially hazardous activities such as operating machines or vehicles. Since alcohol ingestion can be dangerous in similar situations, it is recommended to avoid alcohol while taking adderall. Both alcohol and adderall have the risk of being abused. With the limited information that was provided, it is difficult to say whether you had the incident from alcohol or from the combination of alcohol and adderall.

Sincerely

HFHS-M.D.

I don't know about that particular drug and alcohol combination but it sounds to me like you drank enough to give yourself alcohol poisoning. Alcohol is toxic and if consumed to the extreme the toxicity can kill you or give you seizures.
