1) Is it typical and appropriate to prescribe daily doses of Klonopin, Lamictal, Seroquel, AND Celexa?
2) If so, would it be appropriate for a patient who has never had a seizure, and has not been diagnosed with any psychosis?
3) Would the combination of these 4 drugs be likely to cause a side effect of interference with thinking, memory, and speech?
A family member has been taking all 4 of these meds daily as prescribed this year. During that time he has become very debilitated, with foggy thinking, slow speech, and poor memory. He was treated for insomnia and moderate depression for several years with Effexor, Paxil, and Xanax, until last January when he had (at age 62) a single episode of manic type symptoms, and was switched to his current meds. I am concerned that his current "zombie-like" state may actually be a side of effect of his current meds. I also wonder if the manic episode that preceded the new meds may have been largely caused by the old ones.
