I have been with the same psychiatrist for more than 10 years. Over this time he has been attempting to address my "treatment resistant" depression. We have been through more medicines than I can list here. For over a year now I have been taking 450mg Effexor and 450mg Buproprion, Over the last two months he has sent for a series of ECT treatments. During my most recent appointment he was pre-occupied with leaving for another personal appointment. The time spent was useless and I felt because of our familiarity he was comfortable in passing me off. Frankly, I felt taken for granted. Had he called to re-schedule me, it would have been fine. Additionally, I sense a clear lack of communication between him and the psychiatrist performing the ECT treatments.
Depression can be a life-long illness so I am wondering if there is a "rule of thumb" for changing psychiatrists if the condition has not been "cured". Thanks very much....Mike
