What medication will control my hunger?

For as long as I could remember I have always had problems controlling my hunger. It is so compulsive that at times I find it ruining my mental health just trying to control it. I am not over weight- I work out and  eat healthy at home. But its not making good choices about what I eat that causes me to gain weight its  that copulsive feeling to stop eating I can never seem to get. For so long I thought that was normal and that when I'd eat too much that I just had no self displine (for which I'd feel so guilty about that I would punish myself the next day by running an extra 3 miles and restricting my caloric intake). But last year I realized that wasnt true and that I did have an eating disorder so I began taking Adipex (after I attended many diffrent counceling sessions and group therapies in which the counselors themselves really didnt understand that I and many other patients do not lack self control we have compulsive hunger that never stops . Because I'm not overweight and I take adipex to control my hunger I'm looked down upon as someone with an anorexia disorder becuase very few people understand the struggle I go through on a daily basis. I'm tierd of having to hide my medication from even my roommates! Sinse taking adipex my life has been less stressfull I can relax and enjoy food now knowing that when I do eat I can eat a normal healthy portion and be able to stop. My problem lies with the fact that adipex is not a long term solution what other medication can help me control my hunger?

Jaquta is right..there is no long term pharmacological answer that is safe.  The obsession and compulsion is part of your mind function, and there are very good ways to deal with that...the shrinkyourself program Jaquta mentioned is based on my book, it is online self help therapy, that is designed to get to the source of the overeating compulsion...check it out.

A similar question was asked on the Weight Loss and Healthy Lifestyle expert forum.  The doctor was unaware of any medication to suppress appetite.

I have heard that protein can help to suppress appetite.  Have you tried filling foods such as fruits and vegetables, lean meats, poultry, fish, eggs, low-fat milk and dairy products, etc?

Usually behind compulsive eating are emotional issues.  You might like to check out the doctor's website: shrinkyourself.com.
