Zyprexa was working great but......

I gained 10 pounds in 10 days! While my usual dark depressive thoughts abated, I was left with one single unending desire... to eat, eat and eat but no amount of food would sate me. So now my search continues for an anti-depressant that will elevate my dopamine & serotonin levels as Zyprexa did without excessively increasing my appetite. Does such a thing exist? Should I concentrate on SSRI's or MAO inhibitors?  In the past I've taken Prozac, Serzone, Anafranil & Celexa. Would appreciate a recommendation. Dr. thinks my atypical depression may be bi-polar II. What about lithium?  Would really appreciate some recommendations.  Thank you very much.

Zyprexa isn't a anti-depressant, it's an anti-psychotic.

MAO's must be awful dangerous if SSRIs are considered 'safe' in comparison.  BECAUSE SSRIs ARE NOT SAFE, NOR ARE THEY DESIGNED TO ACCURATELY TARGET A LEVEL OF Seretonin balance.  THEY HAVE DAMAGED THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE.  As I'm sure the Forum MD must know by now?  Cos there's plenty of literature and research I've posted below here to show how UNSAFE ssris actually are.  Was hoping for a hero, obviously I am going to be disappointed doc.

Could you please explain what you mean by "transient".

Thank you.

Since you had such a good effect with Zyprexa, you might ask your doctor about staying in the same family of medications, and one that has only a transient weight effect is a medication called Quetiapine.

A second recommendation would be concentrate on ssri's rather than MAo inhibitors...much safer, and at least as effective.
