clonazipam for severe panic disorder

I have read the forum and there are sooo many bad things about clonazepam. I had been on clonazepam for 6yrs.and was changed to a new psyciatrist as my usual was treating my mother as well...I can very clearly remember having severe anxiety andpanic attacks since i was in elementry scool and evev a feeling even outside the box and differntly than other kids in preschool...i was ridiculed in first grade for not rying hard enough when I was in the highest in my class in the scholastic tests...Thats how I started...That was the beginning of my battle with anxiety and panic disorder...my dr. wanted me to go on xanax at 12 but had already developed a fear of taking meds for fear I would die from them and even before that ocd having to count to 10 10 times before answering the phone for fear Id get cancer...tall order for a child to deal with...@17 my nearaligist diagnosed panic attacks officially and I dealt with my symptoms until I was given clonazem 6 yrs ago...those where the most normalcy i have ever experienced in my entire life...I also have biplar disorder add ptsd I am on Lamictal and seroquel.the new dr.has rapidly detoxed me from clonazepam and Im going through the hell all over again!! Everybody on the forum has bad things to say...I also go to counsaeling and have worked on coping skills and agroup for self esteem and another called seeking safety to learn boanderies and safe behavior. so I am doing many things to help and I dont know what else to do...do you have any suggestions as to taking meds for panic I had mey whole life being thrown into the fire of my hell again...I think for my symtoms and counseling it is ok to take clonazapm as well as the work I am still doing and will most likely working all my life...do you agree?

I hesitate to make any recommendations other than what you have already received.  You have been in treatment for a long timeand your case is too complicated for a simple answer although you have gotten very good advice so far on this forum.

Your rapid detox from klonopin after 6 years is the most likely immediate cause of your sudden increase in anxiety.  This needs to be done slowly and carefully.  Go at least yell at your shrink -- might make you feel a little better.

I would probably opt for more intensive psychotherapy or try Dr Gould's self-help program on his website (myvirtualshrink.com).
Too many options can sometimes distract from the real work that needs doing.
I don't like coping or management strategies very much, I prefer the resolution pathway.  Why continue to cope with something that could potentially be fixed??

Medication is OK as a tool but it shouldn't be used as a crutch.
