teen daughter and stress

kim
My 15 year old daughter has been on paxil for just over a year and recently is on 40 mg a day. She has been taking spells and I've been told that she is disassociating. Also she passes out and I've been told it is due to stress. It is scary and I don't know what to do. It is becoming more frequent and she doesn't know when it is going to happen. She has missed a lot of school because of it and now the school is worried she might pass out at school and hit her head etc. Has anyone else had this problem. I feel like  there is nothing I can do. She is already seeing a counsellor since Sept. Please help.

Dear Kim

The spells that your daughter is experiencing  need to be evaluated by a physician to rule out any organic cause that may be precipitating these episodes. Medical conditions such as seizures, hypoglycemia and several others can precipitate this kind of symptoms. I am unaware of any reports of paxil  causing this kind of symptoms.I would recommend that you contact her Pediatrician immediately for a complete evaluation.Good Luck.

Sincerely
HFHS-M.D.

You might want to take her to her pediatritian and have her evaluated for a seizure disorder. Her 'spells' could possibly be absent seuzres and teh passing out could also be a kind of complex partial seuzure.
