unwanted thoughts

J
I don't want to think the thoughts that come to my head.  They are negative thoughts about my family.  This started a month ago.  I was really depressed at the time.  My biggest fear is the thought of going crazy.  I love my family so so much, they are the best. I feal guilty that this is happening.  Its really making me nervous.  The more I don't want to think things the more it happens.  I don't know what to do.  I feel that It will never end.  All I want is to not feel this anymore.  What should I do.

Is there such thing as self sabotage.Sometimes I feel that the worst thoughts posible come on purpose to make myself feel bad. That's where I think its self sabotage because I know I don't really feel that way. The thought are inttrusive and often come out of the blue when everything is fine. THe thoughts range from thoughtas of failure, thoughts about things I would never do and thought about the past recurring and repetitive. The don't occur every day or all day when they do occur but when thoughts occur they are at odd times. I could be in the bathroom, shower, work school or simply watching a movie and these repeptitve thoughts occur. I don't get any satisfaction from the thoughts qute to the contrary I feel impotent and as  if there is something wrong with me. os there?

the intrusive thoughts you have go against your true values and real feelings.  that is the disease.  the thoughts go against your very nature, your personality.  yes, it can be scarey, but there is help.  read about ocd, perhaps get a consult for meds which may also help a lot.

just wondering about something that has been brothering me, my husband has been wearing the same shirt for about 3 weeks a very nice shirt but this has me concerned that something else could be wrong , my husband has very nice clothes and alot of nice shirts, maybe 20 or more, at christmas my father gave him a sweat shirt and he wore it about 2 weeks off and on more on.I thought that it was strange for him but i said nothing but now this shirt a dress shirt he even went sking and had a sweet shirt on but had that dress shirt on over that sweat shirt. Is something going on or is he just in love with that shirt, he showers everyday and is very clean other wise.I know this sounds crazy but dont want to ask him I might hurt his feelings.

Because of the recent onset and association with depressio a month ago, I would unlikely diagnose your condition as OCD. You may be suffering from Major Depression with symptoms of ruminations or thoughts that preoccupy your mind most of the day. As you have mentioned, you have these "negative thoughts" that are hallmark symtpoms for depression.

Major Depression is a common illness which is often missed or denied by the person suffering from the illness because of fear of being called "crazy" by society.

Modern times, however, is changing the attitude of today's society. Newer medications like the SSRI like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil are effective medications with less side effects as compared to medications of yesteryears.

Psychotherapy, specially Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, has shown its efectiveness in treating depression as well.

I advise that you consult a psychiatrist for a full evaluation.
