Depression and Anxiety

I have been on various forms of different anti-depressants which also help some anxiety. The longest medication I was on was Effexor XR for maybe 8 years. Over that time I developed an alcohol problem. Since then I quit alcohol without a problem, however, I am currently in the midst of a major depressive episode due to a break up of a relationship. I went off Effexor 6 months ago and my doctor put me on 150 mg of the Zoloft generic and also started me on Wellbutrin generic. I find that I get the same daily trends as far as anxiety and depression. I don't know if it's related to an aftermath of my drinking or if it can be from the meds. It's always depression in the AM, around 11:30 am I feel anxiety and around 2:30 it's the worst. Around 6pm I crash and it's depression but I feel more clearheaded. Has anyone had an experience with this? I'm at wits end with everything and trying anything I can to feel better from exercise, therapy and eating healthy. Let me know. Thanks.

Congrats on quitting alcohol that is a major accomplishment! I too cannot drink because it skyrockets my anxiety the next day.  I'm sorry I don't really have any answers just offering support. I am in the midst of a major depression myself and am in the process of trying meds lexapro, celexa, Zoloft, and Wellbutrin have not worked for me so far. I see the doc next week so we will see... I too wake up with the worst depression but it goes away in about an hour, like boshogg42 said I think it's the thought of how long the day will be. Then the depression hits back hard at 6-8pm at night. Hang in there! Your doing better than me in the exercise dept. keep us posted

When and why do you take the wellbutrin?  Did you ever try the Zoloft without the wellbutrin?  I ask, because why take two drugs to start with when one might do, and because wellbutrin is a stimulating antidepressant (so was Effexor), and when you take it might have something to do with the elevation in anxiety.  Don't know if this is true, but it's an area to investigate.
