Depression

Does one ever "recover" from clinical or major depressive disorder?  I have been on many, many different types of  anti-depressants for the past 8 years and nothing seems to help.  I feel like I'm just plodding through life with no pleasure in anything, nothing gets me excited, and I feel like I'm just waiting to die!  It is debilitating and many, many days it is even difficult to get out of bed, let alone run errands and a household.  I see a psychiatrist regularly, and I've also seen a psychologist but I just can't seem to escape the doom and gloom.  Thank you for any advice you can give me.

I am told I am bipolar but my major symptom has always been depression. I have got so bad that I stay up until 3am and I sleep through the next day and I don't wake up until around 4pm. Even then I am still tired and I don't want to do anything. However, I have been put on lexapro and depakote "Mood stableizer and a anti depressant" and it never fully goes away but I believe that there are medication that can help you deal with the everyday life. It just may take some time to find the right medication but I suggest seeing your doctor.

Thenk you Venora for your reply.  Yes, I do see a psychiatrist regularly....yesterday in fact.  I also take my medication diligently.  I take 300 mg of Wellbutrin and 120 mg of Cymbalta...along with xanax (prn).  I don't do any sort of formal excercise, but I clean a doctor's office 3 evenings a week and that in itself is a workout!  I have been thinking lately about taking those 30 minute brisk walks, but that is as far as I have gotten,.,.,.just thinking.  I must say I am guilty of not eating right or getting regular rest.  I've been upfront with my docs but it just seems this depression will not lift.  I, too, have "manic" phases although have not been diagnosed bi-polar...I think I may be bi-polar type 1.  I love the times I'm "up".  I get so much done and get so creative, but then BOOM....back down with a dozen unfinished projects I have started!  The "down" times are MUCH more frequent than the "up" times.  I am going through a very difficult time right now-financially and personally.  I'm sure this doesn't help either.
Again, Venora, thanks so much for your kind words of support.  It's nice to know someone will listen!  Oh...another thing...most people just tell me to "snap out of it" or "you have no reason to be depressed".  If they only knew how very, very real it is..  Thanks Venora.
Love,
Jill

I am bi polar and ther is no cure but there is treatment.I take my 2 little pils go to therapy and exercise and eat right andget regular rest.
Depression can be beaten this way.but its like diabetes you have to take your meds.I  finally came to terms with this when I was in jail and so super manic they thought I was on drugs. Then I went to depressiona dn they thought I was suicidal.I decided then and there that taking 2 little pills for the rest of my life was a small price to pay to keep my butt out of jail
So are you on meds and seeing a therapiist? and do you exercise?Just a 30 min brisk walk will do to raise your seritonin levels.
Depression is a brain imbance ithat it doest produce enough seritonin on its own so do what you can to boost it.And are you telling your docs what you have told here? It is  very importatn to be honest with them, and believe me I know how tough that can be.
Let me know how you are and If you wnant to talk I will listen.
Love Venora
