Hello, just from my own expereince, I don't think you have that much to worry about if you just make an appointment with a Psychiatrist because he/she is not going to put a needle in your arm on you first visit, or possibly never. I've been going to a psychaitrist for over 10 yrs and he has never put a needle in my arm yet! LOL!
Mostly, during you first consultation, and more than likely, your psychaiatrist will just ask you questions to find out why you feel so less motivated.
I am sort of afraid to go to the doctors. I have a strong fear of anything related to medicine and surgery or even just tests. I was really hoping try to make it as little of a thing as i could but recently i have started to realize how badly this is effecting me.
Motivation is a challenge but I would like to recommend that you get a book by Dr. Burns titled New Mood Therapy. It is a old book but has some great self help activities related to depression/anxiety that really work. I have used it and it has helped but you have to use the tools.
Yup, I agree with Mammo. I would make an appointment as soon as possible, because there are so many things (not just medications) that can alleviate your pain, and the Pros know about this, & they can refer you.
Here's an example, (since I don't know your situation), but here's mine, maybe you can relate:
I belong to an HMO, so first I had to make an appointment with my regular Doctor and from there, she made a referral to a Psychiatrist AND Counselor. I went to both, and it was the best thing my Doctor ever did for me. This was a long time ago, wayyyy before the internet, so I had nobody to talk to, due the the stigma of depression that used to be out there. Beleive me, back then, there were no Depression Cliubs, Depression Forums, etc, so depressed people just suffered alone, if they even survived.
Lucky for you, though, you found this site, so maybe our experiences can help to guide you to help.
Therefore, I would call my regular Doc today, at the very least.
JMHO.
This is more than just being lazy. You have symptoms that are interfering with your day to day life and this needs to be addressed. It's best that you see a psychiatrist for therapy and/or medication. You do have symptoms of depression but only a professional can determine this. We hear from a lot of young people, so know you're not alone and we're glad you found us. We've all dealt with the same, and do understand. There is a lot of help for you, and you can get your motivation and excitement about life back.
Take care.....
