Is this Zoloft withdrawal?

I stopped taking Zoloft (100mg once a day) a few days ago. I had no withdrawal at all. This morning I woke up with the most intense vertigo and nausea I've ever had. I have a fear of throwing up so I'm on the verge of tears because I do not want to throw up. I tried eating and I even took 50mg of Zoloft to see if that was the problem. But it's been 3 hours and I'm sitting here at work wondering if I should go home or if it's even safe for me to drive. It feels like if I go to sleep I would feel better. Could this be withdrawal even if I took Zoloft and I'm still having these symptoms? My psych told me I could stop taking the Zoloft at any time and I would have no withdrawal.

I feel 100% better so if that was withdrawal it was the weirdest and shortest withdrawal ever. And if it wasn't than that was really weird because I've never had vertigo before. At any rate I won't be taking Zoloft again!

''Your body is dependent on medication for pain and it's also dependent on medication to balance the chemicals in your brain so naturally if you stop those medications your body is going to go into withdrawal. ''

you got that right.

Thanks! I actually feel much better today. I bought some OTC sleeping aids and got a better nights sleep. I don't feel as dizzy and nauseous as I did yesterday. It's kind of scary to me that my doctor would totally deny withdrawal from these medications. I'm in pain management and they fully except withdrawal from almost every medication they use to treat pain so it's weird that my psychiatrist would not be like that as well. Your body is dependent on medication for pain and it's also dependent on medication to balance the chemicals in your brain so naturally if you stop those medications your body is going to go into withdrawal.

Wellbutrin is affecting you in no way Zoloft was affecting you. Wellbutrin targets two other neurotransmitters and not only serotonin like Zoloft. Even if Zoloft is thought to be a soft SSRI, withdrawal symptoms are very likely and the severity of the withdrawal is relative to how long you've been on the drug and you own brain chemistry.

That being said, I think you should taper off the Zoloft slowly by reducing you dose by half and then skipping doses, this would alleviate the withdrawal symptoms.

It is normal you had no withdrawal symptoms the days right after stopping because it takes longer than a day to change you brain chemistry (with Zoloft is it the reuptake inhibition of serotonin). The withdrawal symptoms are pretty much the same reason why there's a therapeutic lag with these meds.

This is way different than any other withdrawal I've gone through which has been mostly opiates. It's deffinetly way worse. I'm on wellbutrin as well so I figured I'd be ok stopping the zoloft plus my psych told me there would be no withdrawal from either of these medications if I wanted to stop and he told me I could stop at anytime. I'm just so tired and dizzy and wondering if I even want to continue to take any of this medicine.

What your going through does sound like withdrawal. I'm really surprised your Dr did'nt have you taper from this med. Even with you starting it again it may take a couple of days to feel better. Plus your only taking half the dose. I've never taken Zoloft but several other antidepressants and I've always tapered or went straight to another med. Hopefully others members that have taken this med will be able to help you with the tapering process. I hope you feel better soon.. Remar
