Nursegirl is so right.  I have been on anti-depressan ts that did not help at all and gave me side effects.  Like her, I kep going until I did find one that worked for me.

Don't give up the idea of medication.  It has given me my life back.

Hey all!

When I see people say, "I cannot take _____ meds", I'm always curious as to how you came to that conclusion, for a number of reasons.  For one, I've seen how miraculous these meds have been for so many people (myself included).  Also, while there are certainly people who just cannot tolerate a certain kind of medication, it is actually rare that there would not be SOMETHING that would at least help, to an extent.  The advantage of meds for depression and anxiety is that there are many different classes of meds that can be tried, if another doesn't work, or isn't tolerated.

It's VERY important to give ADs ample time to work, before making any decision as to its effectiveness.  It's true that the most commonly Rx'd Ads, the SSRIs, come with some side effects.  The kind and severity of these side effects will greatly vary from person to person.  That being said, it's also my experience that there are options that can be helpful in dealing with these side effects until they start to resolve (typically around 2 weeks into treatment).  Also, sometimes, dosage increases are necessary, therefore, it may take quite a while before one can TRULY and fairly assess whether or not a med will work for them.  Some people will get to 6 weeks into treatment, not feel a lot better and decide the med isn't working, when in reality, they were started at a low dose and may have done well after an increase.

I'm in NO way discounting the people who truly cannot tolerate some medications, what I would like each of you to do is to be honest with yourselves about if you have done all you can to give various meds a fair chance.  Did you try more than one med?  How long did you take the medication, and at what dose?  A low dose, or a more average dose?  Did you try therapy along WITH the med?  That is paramount in having success.

Also, sometimes, it's important to perhaps seek out a second opinion, as some docs are way more educated about the medication options out there than others.  ANY of us that have a chronic history of depression, anxiety, etc,...should have our care (and meds) managed by a psychiatrist, not a family doctor.  Sometimes, it's as simple as seeking out a specialist to truly get the right kind of guidance with meds.  Treating depression can be tricky, but again, just have an honest conversation with yourself about how fair of a chance you gave medications.  There are more than one class of medications used to treat depression with success.  If you have only ever tried one class (ie, an SSRI), then, you may not have exhausted all possibilities.

I'm a huge supporter of meds, because I've gotten my life back on more than one occasion, but I also know from first hand experience, that sometimes it is an unpleasant process getting there.  I've had some pretty intense side effects with different meds, but I pushed myself to at least give it a chance, and with some short term interventions from my doc to help endure the side effects, I WAS able to find that the medications DID indeed work for me.  I think too many people just can't get past the side effects, and they throw in the towel too soon.  I also think too many people go into treatment with too many preconcieved notions about medications, setting themselves up to fail.

Just give it some thought, for those of you who maybe have NOT exhausted all of the possibilities.  There are just so many options out there.  And, remember, that even WITH medications, therapy is so important.  For those of us who have had success with meds, we know it isn't the cure all, there is a lot more to it than that, but the meds at least help with the symptoms, so that we can start working on ourselves.

I wish you all peace, and hope that you find something that helps you get YOU back, and obvously, it goes without saying that anyone that feels they may be in danger of harming themselves needs to seek immediate help.  I know some days it seems there is just no hope, and the black hole seems to consume us, but keep fighting the fight.  It will be worth it in the end, even if you have to work like hell to pull yourself out of that hole.  You are among people that understand.

Divya Ashwashila capsules  will help with fatigue and depression. But first  do the natural techniques which will keep the mind relaxed, and then get the supplements. Follow the techniques with eyes closed and let me know your progress, after you can do anulom vilom for more than 15 minutes.

Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.

Anulom Vilom pranayam –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Children under 15 years – do 5 to 10 minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close little flap of ears with thumb, place  index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Repeat this  5 to 21 times.

Hi I am in a group that deals with people coming off pills so lots of us suffer anxiety, depression coming off.
For anxiety try a tincture calledavenus sativa 20 drops three timesdaily in a little water. You can try 5HTP from the health shop it converts to seretoninif taken of a day and melatonin if taken of a might. I personally believe in accupuncture it is great for stress and also meditation.
Use geranium oil for stress get a carrier oil or just baby oil and rub on the forearms and on your chest. Also lavender is great and its away of being kind to you, you can also but it in the bath but mix with oil first.
Take care

Dont apologize for rambling, and dont give up! It is discouraging, but from my standpoint, i dont want to be on prescription meds anyway. What else have you tried? Ive been focusing intently trying to eat healthier and excercise regularly, all those natural ways of coping are what are bodies need most and are built for anyway. not these medically formulated drugs that are treating one symptom and causing another. And these processed foods pumped with fertilizers and pesticides further deteriorating our health and mental wellbeing. Another thing that has helped me is listening to positive affirmations every night, the best one ive found is by glenn harrold, if u have an iphone some audio app sessions are free or you can order,' inner peace and calm', 'heal your body', inner peace and wisdom are all good ones. Positive talk and reinforcement really helps with the feelings of sadness  n hoplessness. I'll keep you posted about the focus formula it may help u feel more balanced as well. You will be fine, just need to focus on you. There are still many different avenues even if its through self expression, picking up a hobby, but it takes commitment everyday and you have to work at it constantly, minute by minute, feeding your mind only positive thoughts, focusing on your achievements, and how far youve come. That you are becoming stronger and Not more weighed down. we r here if u would like to talk more. You are not the only one feeling that way time to time, and there are ways of overcoming it for everyone, but we need to incorporate many changes, physically and mentally, there is no miracle cure. How much do you want to live and be happy??

Appreciate comments and suggestions. Fortunately i dont usually have trouble sleeping, chamomile is a great recommendation. Have heard of the chocolate as well, id eat it all day if i could! My sis recommended oxyelite from the vitamin shoppe, she said it has worked wonders for her concentration, memory and motivation, it  has gotten great reviews it is also geared toward weight management by suppressing appetite n boosting metabolism. I am not trying to lose weight and my anxiety has greatly decreased my appetite so the nutritionist recommended focus formula, im on day 4 and have noticed a gradual improvement in my mood, not as uneasy, finding it a little easier to focus on what im reading or studying but its Too soon to tell. Reading the psalms and proverbs right before bed and also first thing in the morning is also a great motivator. Thanks again! God bless

Oh my dear, I know you must feel really terrible, and I wish I could help.  Not to have anyone to turn to in the medical profession is really bad.  You could get yourself admitted to a psychiatric hospital voluntarily, and they will possible give you ECT.  Have you asked?

We are your friends here, and please do not do anything rash.  Remember you can always ramble here and we will listen.
