I know what you mean. I was kind of let down by Remeron too. It helped a little, but not enough to make my life tolerable. I was expecting more from it.
I found an old Tri-cyclic called Protriptilyne that I just can't say enough good things about. It gives you a really nice calm energy that really helps to make you feel more normal. I think more people should try it. It's not a drug that is often prescribed simply because a lot of doctors don't know much about Protriptilyne.
I'm glad my Psychiatrist pulled it out of the grab bag because it has me doing a lot better now. That says a lot because my depression is a tough nut to crack because I am med resistant.
I've heard that is one of the drawbacks for Remeron. I've only been on it for a month and no weight gain except the 5 lbs that I had lost from the terrible withdrawl side effects of the Paxil. My Doctor only plans to keep me on it until my body gets use to the Prozac....and I agree I'm ok on the Remeron, but don't feel as though it is helping me that much.
I took Remeron for 12 months, it worked ok at best. The main problem is that Remeron is the #1 king daddy of weight gain antidepressants. It makes Paxil look like a diet pill.
I never gain weight from antidepressants, but that damn Remeron put 60 Lbs on me in 12 months. That was with cutting my food intak down to 900 Calories a day.
Once my friends started calling me tubby I had to switch.
