Remeron

I've been prescribed generic Remeron since I wasn't having much luck with the SSRI meds.  I've been off meds for about six months and am not having much success on my own.  I'm also going for CBT (cognetive behavior therapy) for my anxiety and am going to my first group support meeting this friday.  Has anyone had recent experience with generic Remeron?  Don't know what to expect for sure but the SSRI side effects were miserable.  Thx again, Thom.

On my third day with this new drug.  Starting at only 7.5 mgs.  Feels like I took an overdose of cold medication.  The sedating effect is unreal.  Taking it at night but in the A.M. I have the antihistamine type of hang-over feelings.  Not fun.  Will this go away or just get worse when I up the dose to the "theraputic" level of 15mgs?  The CBT Dr is really a "crock"!  I have little hope for mental imaging or breathing type excercises.  The group is more for bi-polar folks so I'm not comfortable with it.  Will look for another.  Thx for all your input for now.

Dear Thom,

I have been taking generic Remeron for some years now. I am currently taking 22.5 mg per day.

Remeron seemed to clear up my morning anxiety problems almost overnight.

I find it to be quite sedating. In my experience, changes in dosage seem to have an effect on dream activity.

Good luck with the CBT and group therapy.

Thank you for your input.  I appreciate it very much.  Did you or do you currently have any increase in appetite or weight gain?  It's listed on the prescription data sheet as one of the side effects along with itching which I had with Wellbutrin.  Thx again, Thom.

Namaste,

Remeron is a tetracyclic antidepressant. It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression. It is thought to increase the activity of norepinephrine and serotonin which help elevate mood.

Remeron is used to treat major depressive disorder.

Since it is not an SSRI, most of the side effects associated with SSRI's will not be experienced.

I have been taking Remeron for approximaately 8 weeks now and didn't suffer any side effects and have found it to be quite useeful in controlling my symptoms.

I am diagnoised with Bipolar Disorder I, SAD, GAD, PTSD, plus a number of other minor disorders.

In addition to the Remeron, I take 10 mg. of diazepam 4 times a day and 400 mg. of Lamictal daily.

I find this cocktail has worked the best for me after six (6) years of trying.

I sincerely hope that you have the same success that I have had with Remeron.
